Volvo 240 AC Retrofit 200 1990

Did a retrofit on my air conditioner last year. Changed dryer, oil (ester), add R134. Cools well on highway but not as good as R12. Have heard that a new evaporator and/or condensor may be required. Anyone out there had similar experiences?
