Speedo Swap: What do K numbers mean? 200 1986

I'm needing to replace a 120MPH speedometer in a 240. Will just any speedo work, or does it have to have the same numbers on the face?

The numbers I'm speaking of are the ones below the needle's axis in white lettering. On my wagon it says "K9800" and our sedan says something like "K10400". I'm guessing maybe that the numbers indicate which differential gearing ratio it's calibrated for?

Or can I just plop in any speedometer without regard for these cryptic numbers?

( BTW, as a followup to my pinging post a few days ago, I set the timing to 10 degrees and now it only pings (that I can hear) under extreme

acceleration. Still not the root of the problem, but a good fix for

now & I have lots more power available for use! Thanks for all the good

input! )
