OK, here is my problem. I am trying to adjust the mixture on my 242. The hayne's says to attach a dwell meter to the red test lead. With the engine fully warmed and the oxygen sensor disconnected, it reads about 55 degrees. This is higher than it calls for, I believe. The book says to turn the mixture adjustment screw until the dwell meter reads correctly. The dwell meter does not change. The engine will run differently as I turn it, but the dwell meter stays the same. Also, with the O2 sensor connected the dwell meter drops below 30 degrees and pegs the dwell meter. What is going on here? When I first connect it, the reading drops slowly from 55 to below 30 and then stays there.
