I've been getting 14 mpg in the city in my '93 945T (58K) and have been gradually re-baselining the vehicle that I bought in August in an attempt to address the issue. So far, I've replaced the air filter, distributor, rotor, plugs and am about to put new spark plug wires in as well. I'm about to embark on cleaning the throttle body as the next likely culprit, since, so far, at least, my mileage in the city still bites the big one.

Given this lousy mileage, I was sure that the plugs would be oily and/or otherwise fouled when I changed them due to all the gas beind dumped into the cylinders. WRONG. The plugs looked OK-- crusty white-- just like they're supposed to look in the pictures. Back in Aug I had some BG 44K run through the system at my 55K service. Would this stuff clean out the throttle body, and does the condition of the plugs indicate that the throttle is working as it should? I guess I'm reluctant to take this apart unless it's necessary. The condition of the plugs could suggest another problem, I suppose. I had the timing belt changed in Aug, and it could've been incorrectly installed. But wouldn't the ignition timing be automatically and correctly reset when the belt is changed -- assuming a correct install.
