newbie asks: should I get snowtires? 700 1992

Does anyone put snow tires on their Volvos'? I have a '92 740 wagon. I live in Kansas City. I just put 200 lbs. of sand in the back, and I am thinking of buying two wheels to have studded snow tires mounted on. Is this a good idea? I'm new to Volvos & this is my first winter driving one (I traded-up from a front-wheel drive Mitsubishi). Could anyone recommend a studded snow tire?
