GLASS REMOVAL 200 1984

I just purchased a 1984 245 GLT and need some help. This is the first wagon I've ever owned and a new problem has arisen that's never been a problem on previous sedans. On one of the frame rails on one of the large side windows there is a goodly amount of rust. I was wondering how to remove this large piece of glass without breaking it. Will I need any special tools? Is my only hope a hammer and a replacement glass? Please advise. Thank you.
