Avoiding the dealer on a check engine light 200 1990

My charming 1990 240 wagon is having a hard year. After the hatch

broke, now the check engine light is on and I dread taking it to the

dealer to have the hook up a wire and tell me the emissions are

high or something. Here are the symptoms - it blows the 7th (for door

locks and the clock) fuse as fast as I put them it (about 1 hour), the

overdrive light (little arrow) often comes on when I start up the car,

but goes off after 10 minutes of driving. Its a little sluggish and

noisy, but it has been that way for awhile. Is this really worth

going to the dealer for? The car runs as well as can be expected.

Any ideas what is the matter?

Thanks
