clutch cable 120-130 1969

I hope someone can help with this one ,because my cars going nowhere at the moment.

I cannot work out how to undo the nut holding the cable in place at the pedal end. There does not seem to be enough clearence to get any sort of wrench in there. I cannot imagine that the pedals and steering column have to come out for such a simple job?
