(I would have posted this in the PE forum but couldn't find it.
I will make one more posting on the subject, at the risk of being
a bit maudlin, after this one.)
Esther had a few problems with the PE car, although she enjoyed
it immensely and it was a real blessing to her. By the time it
got to her the OD was nonfunctional and not too much later the
AC ceased to cool. Since she was driving in town and the weather
was getting cooler that wasn't too much of a problem. Then it began
to surge, speeding up suddenly and then refusing to speed up when the
accelerator was pressed. Thanks to Don Foster and others we got some
hints as to what should be looked at, which I relayed to her.
She took the car to Stan Chapman (Stan's Import Auto Service) on Fenwick,
only about a block from Walton Rehabilitation Hospital, along with the
list of what to look for, and he fixed all the problems. Esther was
quite surprised, when she went to pick up the car, that there was no
charge. Stan is a good guy and knows 240s and other late models very
well. Only works on Volvos. So (shameless plug dep't) if you are in
Augusta and need help with a late model Volvo, go see Stan. He won't
fix your car free (probably) but he will do a good job at a reasonable
price.
See the following post for more on Esther's life.
