Hi All,
I inherited a chronic intermmittent "no start" with my 945 maintained by Volvo dealers and Indies.
I calmed it down last summer by shielding the CPS harness and servicing
some key EFI connectors: AMM, CPS, etc.
The bad news is: last month it started acting up again after 7 months.
It would stall at traffic lights and start and go. Then refuse to start after
coming back from an errand
I get an OBD code A6 2-1-4 Engine speed sensor missing sporadically
The good news is that it can be fixed by removing the negative battery cable for a few seconds, rebooting the ignition module.
I can try removing fuse 1 with the ignition off to do the same thing.
Maybe handy if it's pouring outside.
My question is: has anyone found issues with faults/corrosion at the ECU connectors ?
I've been unable to get the ECU out to survey for cold solder joints and
maybe replace some old electolytic caps that are famous for going west with age.
One other note: Today I noticed that there's a black sooty deposit on my new stainless exhaust pipe, so it's running rich.
I see that some if not all AMM's have a trim pot inside, is this a big factor for running rich? I have two old AMMs in my Volvo parts and both of them have
four small frozen phillips head screws (into pot metal casting?) that wont budge after months of penetrating oil. Maybe I need to drill out those screws to get the cover off and get to understand what that trim pot does?
I do have a new OEM O2 sensor that will go in soon that may help.
Work will resume with the end of winter.
A call out to Art Benstein:
Art, have you tried LED's: headlights, interior lights, brake lights etc. ?
I'd like to hear your comments on them.
Happy motoring, Bill
