Speedometer Troubleshooting 200

On my 87 245 my needle started jumping wildly and now does not register at all. It had been working fine until I road tested the car and got it up to about 40-45 mph. All my other gauges seem to be working. I figure it is either the gauge, the transmitter in the differential, or the cable. What is the best way to troubleshoot this?

I looked into getting a cable since this seems to be the cheapest part but IPD and the other typical sources do not seem to have one available. Any idea on how to source this?
