Review of Harbor Freight # 67724 30A Fuse Circuit Tester 900

$11.99 + tax today after using a 25% off Memorial day promo coupon.

1 Find a tiny phillips screwdiver and install the oddball "23A 12V" battery,
and hope you don't lose the tiny UN-captive screw.

2 Then you remove the fuse from the circuit to be tested and insert into the
tester plug socket. The plug socket was bad from the getgo, and the spring
contacts for one blade of the fuse socket needed a service call with a thin
blade screwdiver to get it where it would accept an ATC fuse.
Sorry for the lousy photo, just trust me, the contacts were bogus.
If you get one, pay close attention to starting the fuse into the socket
(I wonder if Fuse Buddy has a better socket?)

3 Here it is checking F11, the 940 in-tank pump

4 Here it is checking F1, the main fuel relay

Comments:

I'll check results with an old fashioned ammeter & shunt later.

No problem with using the plug with the 940 fuse block in place as you can see.

There's two warnings on the plug:
1 A sticker: "Caution 10 second time limit"
2 Molded into the plug: "MAX-30A/48V====10 SEC"

HF has restocking fee (15 or 20% ?) for this item expressed on the sales slip
"Subject to restocking fee"
I found the faulty socket in the HF parking lot, and talked to their manager.
I had bought the last one in stock, and "No problem to get an exchange for no
charge when they are back in stock".

I'm underwhelmed with HF's poor specifications and lack of user directions,
but this looks like a very useful diagnostic tool. I'm hoping to find out
about current draw from fuel pumps that toast the fuse block. Maybe fuel pumps
start drawing more current before they crap out?

I had a problem with HF support: I bought a Predator generator from them in
January and emailed their support asking if they had service manuals for the
predator engine. I got no reply at all. The local manager said to phone
800-423-2567 to reach someone for support. Maybe that will work?

Using the voltage drop chart has advantages that you don't need to remove the fuse. But accuracy seems to vary widely with different VOM's.

Cheers, Bill
