That black paper sound deadening material 444-544 1960

Struggling with resurrecting a barn-find PV, and I am trying to keep it as original as possible.
The headliner was the waffle cloth type, and was consumed by mice during their residency.
I got a nice original-looking VP headliner, but now I’m conflicted by what to do with that black paper sound deadening stuff. There are 4 long strips of it on the inside of the roof. Two completely released from roof and are sitting on the bows. Third is about half down, and one is still stuck to roof.
Should I try to re-stick the old material? If so, then how/what to use? Afraid it will be a sticky mess and then it will probably eventually fail and fall on to my new headliner in the future!
Or should I just remove it all and forget about it? I can’t imagine it helps all that much but what do I know?
I’m not trying to make a show car here but I love keeping things as original as possible.
Any thoughts?
