Got a fuel tank, found a nice used one that is very clean for not too much money; new fuel lines to the main pump, took off the line from the pump to the fuel rail and it is in good shape, I'm going to clean it with some Gumout and compressed air and then quickly blow a little bit of gas throug it to flush the Gumout so it doesn't harm the rubber.
Now the problems.
The main pump and filter have been replaced with new Bosch components. The in tank fuel pump and sending unit, though, are driving me nuts. The pump I got is an MTC from IPD. It is slightly longer than the OEM pump that was on it. No problem, I cut a little bit of the metal tube off of the new aftermarket no-name sending unit and got it to fit by cutting the rubber line down to size. However, the MTC pump has no markings for polarity for the yellow and black wires. Now, the old sending unit was completely disintegrated and nothing on it was recognizable so I couldn't follow the wiring from the old one. Go to Bentley, it tells me with the fuel output to the back of the terminals black goes to the right and the ground yellow to the left. Now, I find out from doing some research that many of these aftermarket sending units have reversed polarity and if so the pump will run backwards. Now I'm paranoid about it. I guess that when I get the tank on I can see if there is anything coming out of the supply line between the tank and the main pump.
My other problem was fuel injectors that were completely clogged and crusted. I have got my hands on some used injectors that I am told are correct for the 87 240 non turbo. They all look the same as the ones I took out but some are black and some are yellow. The ones that came off my car were black. Some of the injectors also are missing the cap over the jet. I can get a set of four of the injectors with caps but they will be a mixture of black and yellow injectors. Sorry I don't have part numbers for them. At this point I probably sound like a moron, but my question is are the injectors interchangeable? Do I run the risk of blowing up the ECM if I put these in? Is it necessary to have that protector cap over the jet?
IF you can, please help me, I don't want to blow the car up. I'm this close to getting it to run I think.
