broke my hood release cable - now trying to replace it ... can I disconnect cable from the pull? 200 1990

so all the work on replacing my breather box, changing oil, troubleshooting other stuff and the repeated openings and closings caused my hood release cable to snap (right near the hood latch assembly) like a Musky pulling on too light of fishing line

luckily I have another 245 that got t-boned (well that wasn't lucky) in my driveway (don't tell my wife it's now a parts car!)

so I'm trying to remove the cable from the donor vehicle and I can't get the cable disconnected from the metal mount structure in front of the puller.

It has a plastic piece holding the cable into the metal mount but I don't see a clip to allow it to disconnect.

The big blue bible of Volvo's didn't give me much help on this one.

any thoughts, as usual, are greatly appreciated
