Some observations:
I recently noticed several different ebay sellers offering the Ranco type H style heat control valve, aka Volvo part # 1348252. I thought this was odd because that valve has not been made by Ranco for probably a couple of decades. One seller was honest enough to say the part is Made in China. Prices range from about $90-$100.
If you think that price is a little steep, IPD is selling this style of valve for around $145. Big surprise. At least they identify the supplier as MTC. If you know MTC, you know their quality can be pretty dodgy.
IPD's website depicts the actual Ranco valve. The trademark is clearly visible. I inquired as to why they were showing the Ranco product and not the MTC product but they have not seen fit to answer.
What I really wonder is, why would anyone bother to reproduce this item when cheaper alternatives are readily available? Are they trying to appeal to the purist? Is there even a demand? Triumph TR-7 and TR-8 use the same valve but how many of those are still on the road?
An item this intricate would take some care to properly manufacture. I would be curious to see the actual product.
