1800 fuel pump woes 1800 1970

Hi everyone. Just replaced the fuel pump on this 1800 with a rebuilt from Calif. It failed within five minutes. It runs, but doesn't pump. It's the original type with three nipples. Previously we installed a later 240 style pump, which did well until the fuel got hot, then it couldn't suck the fuel from the tank. Now we don't have working pump. Does anyone have any suggestions?
