What are the “type” differences within the B18D engine range? 444-544

The old shop manual I got with my 1962 544 has a ton of data regarding the B18 engine.
It show there are specifications for Types 1, 2, and 3 for the B18D.
Can anyone explain in simple terms what the “type” differences mean?
