I am contemplating purchasing a 2002 V70 [T5] from a friend. The car is fairly low mileage for Volvo of that age (120000) and the friend tells me that there is a solenoid that has something to do with idling located in or around the housing for the timing belt. Back in the day, the solenoid was part of the starter. Now I understand that they are all over these cars. At any rate, the car runs and drives but has idle issues that his mechanic reports as attributable to this solenoid. Anyone have information as to what this is?
There is also a Volvo engine that is to be avoided according to the service guys. I don't believe the 5 cylinder is the one but don't know for sure. What is for sure is that the 4 cyl that was in my 940 was bullet proof in the Volvo tradition.
Also, I am not even sure that this is the right forum. There seems not to be a forum listing for the v70.
Thanks
