740 Turbo wagon transmission with locking torque converter. 700

Was driving yesterday and the transmission disengaged all gears. Here what I know before it went South. started up the car to let it warm, slight squealing like a belt slipping few seconds and stopped. Car shifted fine except a few time shifting from first to second was long ., until everything warmed up, but only once when starting off this day. After driving abot twenty minutes the first shudder happen with a chirp/ grind sound. Pulled into my location and went to reverse the car, Nothing! My question is, Do the transmission pumps go out? Torque converter failure? I don't understand the mechanism as to how the torque converter locks-up at cruising speed for better gasoline mileage. Anything I should check or anybody have a similar experience. I did a full service on the transmission several months ago along with a new tail bushing and seal , pan gasket and screen .for preventive matainance. Just drove a long trip last week and it ran Great without any problems.
