Greetings! Need some advice here--
I bought my lovely green 242 brand new in 1980.. It's been in the family since then, but due to various turns of events, including being driven only occasionally by my elderly Dad back in the 90's and early 200's, the car only has 94.5K miles on it. I got it back when he died ten years ago, but didn't drive it nearly enough because it was having repeated issues with the fuel pump where it was very hard starting.. I got it 'fixed', but it was a crappy job.. the indie mechanic was a crook.. kept the car waay too long claiming there were more problems. I took it back from him, paid the guy a grand for what he CLAIMED he fixed--Hah-- not quite. ..a month later got it looked at by a reputable Swedish Car guy, who said the first guy did everything wrong, some of it unsafe, cut corners, etc., So once again it was fixed.. this time reasonably, and it was back on the road, but sadly only for a short while..A month or so in it started jerking and sputtering whenever I drove it..I didn't have time to take it back to the mechanic bc they're closed weekends, and I now have a tough work schedule--so for the past year I've had it on a trickle charge in my garage..I try to start it up, but the while engine has juice getting to it ,it won't catch..
Sorry for the longish backstory, but I really love this car--I want to get this fixed and back on the road. I've gotten a really good referral to yet another mechanic not too far from me who can do the work-- but I'm wondering if it will be worth it? . I'll have to sell it eventually-- within a year or two as i'll possibly be leaving the state..Would it be best to sell it now as it is,to a real Volvo lover who will tend to it's needs properly, or will I get more after spending god knows what to fix it?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice on this..
