Hi all,
I have a 1988 740 turbo wagon with abs, bendix front calipers and ate rears. The car has sat for around 3 years being driven about once every two months around the block.
My problem: the brake pedal feels and sounds like abs has kicked in on dry road with no wheels slipping. This happens at any speed but mostly when coming to a slow stop. Also, at higher speeds (50 mph +) the initial braking will make the car pull to the right. Otherwise the pedal is firm and the car stops just fine. Above problems happens with abs fuse in and out.
So far I've bleed the brakes and inspected the front calipers for free movement and greased up the guide pins a bit more. Also checked the front wheel bearings by checking for vertical play with the wheel on, they seem fine.
Any ideas or suggestions on what is going on or how to resolve this are greatly appreciated.
Thanks and I am glad to be driving my 740 again.
