Remove all AC components to save weight '89 245 200 1989

'89 245 5 spd, 265k mi. I haven't used the AC in the 10 yrs I've owned it. Rt now the AC pulley turns a belt to turn the PS pump above the AC. I have an older style PS pump from a '83 parts car w projecting pulley to align w 3rd (outermost) groove on main-shaft pulley, thus by-passing the need for AC compressor.
What procedures to do to safely and completely remove 40 -50 lbs of never being used AC components?
What's involved to test the AC system to find out if it's a simple fix, or flush recharge to make it work? Any expected range of cost for that?
