Lexol Sucks. Zymol Sucks. Black Hide Leather Seats Like Iron Skin. Leather care suggestions .... 200

Fro a 1992 Volvo 240 GL with the damned black hide leather seats that slowly rots under the North American damned summ, summ, summertime sun?

I cannot, er, do not haz garage.

I've read the host or reviews in what to do to car for these leather seats. Mind you, I enjoy leather seats only slightly more than Summertime and bent crappy alloy wheels I have on this car.

I've used two complete bottle of Lexol, the many time repeated suggestion to care for your hide leather seats in 240. Leather seats in the 140, 160, and 700-900 seem more refined, er, better quality leather.

So, Lexol seems not to have any oils in it to lubricate the leather fibers. It behaves like a glorified Armor-All. I used another off the WALL*MART or Autozone product that was much the same. Ohh, yeah, Zymol. Glorified Armor All, again.

Two leather care products this board oft-repeats.

Initially I cleaned the seats using the glycerine cleaner that is a Lexol product, and much like leather cleaners, though not quite Saddle Soap.

The seats I've applied Lexol preservative, mean the rear seat and passenger front seat, more heavily than the driver front seat, are as dry and hard as when I bought this 1992 240 in August 2007 near Boise, Idaho.

The leather has not ripped or stitching has not pulled out. Some surged threading has come undone in the rear seat I'd hoped to stick back up. Yet I'd like to treat the rust and repack the rear wheel bearings with fresh grease, too.

I have mink oil and other odds and ends that I may try in my show polish kit. As if I have need to polish shoes I never wear. Manufacturing sucks. Yet I'm so good at it, some say, as a tech writer.

Oh, and these leather seats smell sort of nasty. Yet all auto leather smells nasty to me unless very expensive, I guess.

So, what do you use for leather care to keep a Volvo 240 hide leather seat supple, even if the damned Volvo 240 rots in the Summer sun in a crappy American city named St. Louis, the nasty dung heap.
