D-type overdrive slow to engage cold. Where to start? 120-130

I put an m40 with D-type overdrive in the 220. It's slow to engage cold. Take a mile to warm up. Seems fine after.

I suspect the solenoid, since it's electrical and everything else works ok and is not too noisy. I'd like to just get under it and start unbolting, but the 5 pages of tiny type in the haynes manual kinda bugs me, not really addressing this specific issue.

The solenoid appears to be a sealed part, but sometimes these thing can be opened and fixed. It could be just full of oil.

On the lighter side, I found an original non-greasy 1976 edition of a Haynes "120&130 plus 1800 sports" shop manual in a thrift shop. the only things I haven't really seen a hundred times before was the diagrams of the innards of the tailgate.
