Hello All,
Just looking for some advice. I have always been plagued by leaking valve cover gaskets. When installing a new gasket I always carefully put a dab of rtv in the corners of the bearing caps and I don't think the leakage comes from there.
Actually, it appears there is leakage through the slots in the cover where the studs protrude from the head as there is often a little puddle of oil adjacent to the acorn nuts at a number of locations. Maybe a washer under the nuts?
In addition, it seems the gasket must soften up after "awhile" as I have had to re-torque those acorn nuts as they seem to get loose. In the process, I've always worried about over-torquing the nuts, but have not, as yet, broken any studs.
Any thoughts on this, or is a leaking cam cover a unpleasant Volvo nuance.
