drive train noise 200 1988

I am new to brickboard and to my 245. A rumbling noise appears when decelerating from any speed over about 45mph. If I shift into neutral I don't get the noise. The noise appears some times when the car is in reverse but not moving. The sound comes from under the car and sounds like a broken exhaust hanger causing the exhaust system to bounce against something under the car. I checked that nothing loose that I could find. I think may be a bad u joint or loose motor mount. I'm not sure, I just hope it's not a transmission or something expensive! Any help diagnosing this will be greatly appreciated.
Jim
