Gas filler door - what is the deal with these? 900 1993

So I just got a '93 940NA "craigslist special"($366 out the door with a blown head gasket, but runs/drives - see previous post). When I opened the gas filler door, it literally flew off of the car. Is this common? I also have a '94 940, which did not come with a filler door either. It seems like the hinge was made of cheap plastic and a giant safety pin.


Can anyone suggest a good fix for this, or should I just live with it?
