rubber washer under valve springs ? 120-130 1967

With all the parts in hand I should see the nead back from the machine shop in a couple weeks. The manual says to use a rubber washer under the valve springs. When I disassmbled the head there were steel washers under the springs, but no trace of rubber.

Does anyone install rubber washers under the valve springs ? Since I had steel, rubber or steel ? Rubber and steel ? What do you think ?
