wire to fuel gauge cut 200 1993

Hi BB's,

my wagon's fuel gauge stopped working, so I checked the wires leading to the in-tank pump and they have broken off completely at the plate. There is some kind of grey plastic wire holder that has separated from the plate. I hate to try and unscrew the plate - feel like that could undermine the sender, etc..

Any suggestions how to reconnect the wires without surgical intervention?

ps. of course, I could do without the gauge, but my odometer also stopped working. Maybe it would be easier to fix the odometer?
