Rear control arm bushing install 140-160

I have a set of poly bushings to replace the BADLY worn originals in my '68 142. Eventually, I'll be swapping the entire rear end from my '70 144, so I was going to wait until then to do the bushings.

They've gotten so bad; however, that I am thinking I need to do something sooner than later. My question is how feasible it is to replace only the front bushings in my driveway with only jack stands. I was thinking that I could support the car and the rear axle on stands and just drop the front of the control arms, one at a time to get at the bushings. Does that seem reasonable to any of you who have done this before? My other concern is trying to get the 50 year old rubber bushing out of the control arm while it's still under the car.

Thoughts?
