FAE brand brake light switch fails in three months ... 200

... after replacing the 26+ year owld factory installed OEM brake light switch in the mighty (li'l red / beige) 1990 Volvo 240 DL wagon (M47 II).

Volvo Part Numbers: 3544691 ; 679364

For the switch I went to a nearby independent Euro import auto shop with a parts guy that hangs out on the WORLDPAC all day long. I asks for OEM, he says for like 7$ here's an FAE brand. He says they put them in their VWs and BMWs all day long.

I'd look at our Uncle Art B's 240 brake light switch entry here:

http://cleanflametrap.com/brakelights.htm

So, uh, I'd looked at FCP Groton, and they have what looks like the FAE brand. The barrel, that houses the brake light switch plunger, is not one with the switch body, like the factory installed. There's a seam where the barrel meets the body. (Dunno where the factory installed I pulled out is. I did not do a post-repair tear down. Don't really do that anymore.)

FCP has also what appears an FAE brand, yet it is different, and the barrel and switch body in one metal piece.

iPd does, also. Same thing? ... :

Yet here we have OEM, or looks just like OEM:

Except the barrel and switch body are not one brass or steel piece like the factory installed:

Just like mine. It is a universal FAE brake light switch. Yet FAE makes direct fit for 240 as you see above from iPd and FCP.

We have Professional Parts Sweden. PPS PN 28434691.

Says it fits through 12 of 1975?

I'll keep looking, yet does anyone know the original OEM vendor brand? It's not FAE, and I can't remember right now. Yet the page says same as 3544691, which is good through the mid 90s or so RWD and the same for early 850, so sayeth the Volvo OEM part number page about Volvo PN 3544691.

I see Schalter Bremslicht as an OEM vendor of brake light switches for 444-544-140-160 series. One or more are on eBay and Amazon?

If yes, where do we go to get these, please? Other than the dealership.

At least I did not have to re-repair some Volvo repair I did on my own. Happens more often than you may imagine.

Thank you,
