Hi all! I'm in need of some suspension upgrades, and I wanted to run my plans by more experienced heads than mine in the hopes that some advice might find its way towards me. I also hope to be rallycrossing the car at some point in the (probably far) future, so I definitely don't want to hurt potential performance, or put something in that'll fail on the first run.
Here's my proposed order:
IPD poly control arm bushings (http://www.ipdusa.com/products/5294/109366-front-bushing-kit-polyurethane-1975-1993-240-260) - I've already done all of the sway bar bushings in poly, so I figured I'd continue the trend. If I need to do the lower control arms too, I'll probably get them from AutoZone
Bilstein Touring struts/shocks - available from IPD. These supposedly have a good balance between price, comfort, and performance, so (this being a daily driver) that sounded good. Is this a good product? Noticeably better performance/durability than the OEM Sachs shocks and struts?
If I have to do springs, I was planning on putting wagon overload springs in my sedan - if you respond to just one part of this post, I'd most like advice on this. My dad is concerned that it will make the back too stiff - thoughts?
IPD also sells strut reinforcement plates (http://www.ipdusa.com/products/5050/105225-upper-strut-reinforcing-plates) - does anyone have experience with these? Are they useful, or should I save my money?
This part is strictly speculative - if I were to put an LSD in, where would I start looking for one? I've read a lot about how the rear end is just a Dana 30 - is that true? Has anyone done this and have advice?
Also speculative - does anyone have any tips on cheap rallycross prep? I'm heading to college next year, so I don't mind if the car is laid up in the garage for weeks on end, but money is a sensitive topic, especially when it comes to non-essentials (like upgrades vs. repairs). Mostly I would like to know where to start on these cars specifically - all of the options are just completely overwhelming!
Thanks for reading through my inexperienced ramblings - you shall be rewarded with the knowledge that you've made me and my car (5 years my senior) much better off!
