How do you remove the parking brake center console? 200

Hi guys...

The center console, (the one that covers the parking brake and holds the ashtray for the rear passenger compartment), has been broken to bits.
I'm assuming that one of my daughters or their friends decided this was a quick way into the back seat.

I need to replace it but I can really see what I need to do to get the old one out and the new one in. Do the front seats have to be removed?

Oh, this is on a 1986 244 GL.

If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.
