High Idle from kaput TB position switch?

So I clened my trottle body and after re installing I had a high idle. No click from tps when opening throttle so I pulled the tb and got no continuity from the switch with my Power Probe 3. Guess I killed it, so is a high idle a symptom of a bad tps? Can someone explain the reasoning? Does the ecu compensate for the bad signal?
