Just that many years with one car and much knowledge here on this forum how can you not know it's failure points. Little story I have to share:
Here's what just happened. A coworker follows me home so I can weld up a rattling heat shield on his 2011 VW.
I back up my driveway and he follows me,head in. Halfway up the Driveway my Light out indicator pops on. Of course Mike jumps on me that my Drivers headlight just went out. He also thought it was cool to actually see bulb die, usually they are working or not, never seen one go bad as he watched.
"yeah , I know Mike, I saw the indicator pop on . Yes, this old volvo has Bulb out indicators like you fancy,RATTLING, VW.
I tell him to take a second and let the car cool a bit. I open the trunk, grab a spare bulb and put it in. gee, and I didn't even have to tear the front of the car apart to do it either. Start the the car, Sh*t bulb is still out. OK, open the glove box and grab the spare Bulb out Sensor. 3 little Buttons on the knee bolster and the Sensor was in my hand. Swapped it out and we got lights. Total bulb replacement and troubleshooting...10 minutes.
Not sure how many folks with new cars would even know to look for a Bulb Sensor let alone have a spare one.
It took Mike longer to get to his Battery cables to disconnect so I can weld.
P.S. I resoldered the old Sensor and put it back in, it works fine again.
