Hi all,
Recently started encountering a weird metallic squeal+groan in my 93 245. It seems to be coming from the front driver's side, sounds a lot like normal brake squeal, and happens very intermittently at all speeds - I've noticed it when turning in either direction at low speeds after braking, and at highway speeds it shows up most reliably when the wheel returns to straight after even a slight right bend in the road (no brakes involved). Always with right turns in that case.
I took the front wheels off and checked out the brakes this weekend. Pads were fine, but noticed that the inside bottom piston on the driver's side caliper was stuck. I was able to get it to move a tiny bit after a lot of prying, etc - but I'm guessing the caliper will need to be replaced, planning to order that soon. Problem is, I didn't notice excessive wear on either the pad or the rotor, so I'm not sure if this is the source of my issue.
I don't have any experience with wheel bearings, but from reading on this forum it seems like they are less intermittent and lower in pitch... Any ideas on what this could be? I've recently replaced all rear suspension components as well as new driveshaft carrier bearing & U-joints. The noise didn't start until a few months after this work was done.
Thanks!
