Cigaret lighter 444-544

Hi all,
I just encountered a nasty thing when I nearly burnt down my beloved 544. I was going to use the charger for my mobile, plugging it into the lighter. Faster than a bullet, the lighter burnt out due to a short in the thing. The cable routing to the fuse block burnt immediatedely, the fire continuing to the light switch before I could separate the battery and preventing more damage. I then checked the electrical plan and realised that Volvo chose the connect this lighter directly and unfused to the battery!!! If you use the lighter as a power supply to any of this new stuff (mobile, navigation) I can only recommend that you at least use a flying fuse in the supply line to save yourself from the trouble I had. Having worked six hours under the dash, I'm still not finished repairing the damage.
I just wanted to let you know, make the best out of it, but do something
Regards Michael
