antenna motor runs for insufficient time to retract antenna

Hi guys and ladies,

1997 Volvo S90 antenna motor runs for insufficient time to retract the antenna. The teeth are engaged and the up cycle runs long enough to raise a fully retracted antenna but mine is already almost fully up. I discovered this while replacing the mast which was not the problem as the old one was not broken in any way. The motor did run by itself (no one switched the ignition or radio on or off) while I had the cover off the motor looking for gunk as the 900 FAQ suggested. Could I have shorted something out with a tool I had in my hand? Have read all the FAQ and searched all RWD posts to no avail. Do these motors go bad in this way? Any ideas for a solution. The new motors are awfully expensive.

Thanks a bunch,
Len
