Trouble Codes, et al + Shops in Northern NJ 200 1991

Hello All,

A friend 150 miles from home has a 91 240 that's been rather neglected over the last couple of years. I stopped by tonight in my travels with a rudimentary travel tool kit and took a look at the car. Notwithstanding that there's something wrong with the power steering, the OD doesn't work and a few other problems, the code reader spewed out 121,212,123. She was complaining of hard starting and excessive gas usage.

They brought it to a local mechanic and at first he gave it a tuneup. After no results, he subsequently replaced the AMM with some aftermarket part which also made no change. He then replaced the coolant temp sensor, but indicated the car ran worse with it connected so he disconnected the new sensor. I suspect the car needs, among other things the throttle body and IAC cleaned and new vacuum lines. Certainly someone needs to check the snorkel for leaks and the output of the O2 sensor. Also I'm not sure the FPR passed the sniff test, and I didn't have a spare to swap in.

The car is just too far away from me and it was getting dark + I am just not available to spend the time that this car needs. What she does needs is a reputable indy. If anyone can recommend someone, that would be most helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Marty Wolfson
