'93 240 Troublesome Trans 200 1993

Hello All! I have a '93 240 DL auto w/ Overdrive @ 170K miles. I recently purchased her with a known "transmission issue", which at the time, meant she just plain would not shift beyond 1st gear. FYI- Fluid in trans was abso FILTHY and quite well toasted. After some factory spec'd love given to the kick-down cable and a thorough flush (using IPD's flush kit), she now shifts, while cold, fairly normally from gears 1-3, 4th or O/D has not been reached as yet. While @ speed on the hwy, in 3rd and still cool, she tends to downshift to 2nd w/ slightest press of accelerator, gets worse the warmer she gets, eventually leaving me stuck in 2nd for remainder of drive, if I'm lucky.

As she approaches normal operating temperature, more coaxing is necessary for an upshift to the next, higher gear. Upon reaching proper operating temperature, shifting beyond first requires extensive coaxing, finessing the accelerator pedal, coupled at times with attempts at a manual shift can occasionally do the trick (if cool enough). Simply put, the longer she's driven, less the likelihood of an upshift beyond 1st gear.

When cold, all shifting (1st-3rd)is factory smooth, no slipping or jerking. Won't get into O/D hot or cold, but that is a project I intend to take on after resolving the 1-3 gear issue first. Or maybe they're related, me not know, yet. ..

New trans pan gasket, filter and fresh flush using spec'd fluid @ the proper level. New motor mounts, shifter bushings, etc. Transmission behaves much better than prior to refresh (while cold/cool), things just go down hill progressively as she warms up.

I'm finding little information referencing these symptoms online or even in real world inquiries. Transmission shop that checked the fluid for $70, and never touched internals, said "Normally, these transmissions just don't quit".

I'd really like to keep hear as original as I can and forego a replacement. And don't have the budget for their crazy expen$ive rebuild.

Thoughts / feedback would be much appreciated as I need to make some kind of move on this in the near future.

Many thanks,

-Matthew
