Rearleft wheel larch is rotting out - how to repair? 200

Need some advice...
Rear 245 wagon left wheel arch is rotting out, just behind the rear passenger door (in the usual location).
About 4 inches of the lip is gone (were the inner and outer panels join) and its eating into the rear panel about 2-3 X 4 inches. rest of the car body-wise seems fine.
Plan is to repair it soon - when the weather gets better in the early spring.
Ive repaired cars/panels before (MGB + Spitfire) and have a gas mig wielder and wielding equipment!
Just interested in suggestions how to go about this.
Thought of making a pattern and cutting a replacement part out of a scrap car - do salvage yards cut out part of body panels?
Is there a company that stock "repair" arches panels in the USA?
Is the sedan body shape the same as the wagon?
Or should I just patch together pieces of metal and wield them in to make the shape?
