So, bit of history, I've replaced the steering u-joint, and it's been aligned. That was a few months ago...
The steering seemed to drop a bit to the right almost a few weeks after. Meaning the car just wants to steer right if you let go of the wheel. So, I've had to fight it a bit, by steering to the left just so it would track straight. Now, there's a rattle when going fast, felt in the steering wheel. Not sure on all speeds, but most of my driving is highway. And the driveshaft seems solid...
Anyways, Now it's worse. The rattle (in the steering) is new today, but the drift to the right is more pronounced, and I'm a bit worried. I've checked the tie rod ends, and they're kinda shot. There's circular play, meaning I can twist it, and part of one looks like it separated.. (yeah, I know) OK. That's a no-brainer..
But when I jack stand the car's front end, and wiggle each wheel with my hands on 3 and 9 o'clock, there's some play in it. Slight enough, a click, and I can see the entire strut assembly rock with it. I can also notice play in the steering u-joint. It's all connected it seems to the wheel's slight click back and forth, when I shake the wheels. The steering u-joint doesn't seem broken (as it's new) but it IS a Üro part, and maybe that says it all?
Is it somehow the new u-joint busted? Or possibly just the tie rod ends?... Or tie rods, inner/outer? AND the ball joints? Or the tie rod ends, ball joints, AND the u-joint? I know it's hard to tell when you're not there shaking the wheels yourself, but I don't even know where to start, and when you're a cheapo bricker like myself, I'd like to replace a few things at once to save on that alignment. Any thoughts or suggestions? Without going overboard?
Thanks! Booork
