Hello. 1994 Volvo 940. I recently bypassed heater control valve as it was leaking. I bypassed it by running hose from pipe thats comes out of water pump to top of engine inlet. So for now nothing is going into heater/core inside of car. As it is still warm for now that is OK.
Volvo brand replacement heater control valve is pretty pricey. Does one really need this heater control valve ? Can one simply substitute a good brass plumbing valve with lever throw ? While not as convenient as Volvo valve I would not mind opening valve manually during heating season and manually shutting it when heat is no longer needed.
Is shutting off flow from water pump(by closing valve when not needing heat)a bad idea ? However when AC is on doesn't volvo heater control valve do same thing by shutting off flow from pump ? Or maybe it still lets a bit thru ? Or maybe that is OK as one may not be using AC all the time ?
Thoughts ? Ideas ? Feedback ? Thanks.
