A Touching Story... 120-130 1967

Hello All:

1967 Volvo 122S Wagon. Backstory - losing fluid, ticking sound, removed the wheels and found the front driver's side caliper blew. Warped rotor too. Decided to replace both. Patron Saint Joe Lazenby to the rescue - new caliper, new rotor. Removed the studs, swapped centers, rotor on, 50 lb/ft. on the castle nut then back off 1/3 turn, cotter pin goes in like heaven, grease cap back on. Rotor turns endlessly, rock solid, no play, straight as an arrow. Peep these for proof:

I think: "I am an hour away from driving out of here." Then I try to put on the caliper. It goes on, but the rotor does not turn and a quick inspection yields inappropriate touching.

Peep this photo to see the inappropriate touching of the outboard side of the rotor:

No shimming will help since it is the outboard side of the caliper demonstrating questionable ethics. I am not much of a physicist but there seems to be only three friends at this party - the rotor, the caliper and the upright. Perhaps this issue was happening for a while. I did replace both rotors and the front-passenger caliper less than 9 months ago. You guys have seen a million different front ends. Anything obvious I am missing here? Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,

Pooch
