new radiator leaking at sensor 700

Just came back from my garage. I installed a replacement radiator on my '87 Volvo 740 turbo. I took it for a test drive and the radiator is leaking at the sensor on the passenger side between the rubber and the radiator.
When I tried to get the dummy plug out of the new radiator the whole rubber piece came off, but I didn't think it was such a big deal to press the rubber piece back in and then use the sensor from the old radiator.
Is it "just" a seat issue of the rubber piece to the radiator? Any special technique?? Wrong plug?? ... it's leaking pretty bad and can't tighten there anything?!?
... any suggestions??
thanks in advance
