122 fuel pump spacer 120-130

I am looking at the fuel pump as a potential location for an AC bracket on my early b18 that does not have mounting locations for an AC compressor.

Does the spacer serve as heat insulation or a vibration damper for the pump? I am thinking of fabricating a bracket that will take the place of the spacer. If the thickness is 1/4" then it should not affect the spacing. I assume it would not affect the operation of the fuel pump if it provided the same spacing.
