Should I expect to hear pressure escape from the gas tank after running a while and take the cap off?

Related: I just changed both fuel pumps and filters and there are no leaks in those areas. I smell gas when driving under load like it might be coming from under the hood but I don't smell anything with the hood up, I don't smell anything under the car, and I don't smell anything in the trunk. I'm getting a lumpy idle and poor boost.

What the heck is up with this?
