Unconfirmed Evaporator Leak 900

1995 944, a little over 100k. Wife's car. No confirmed diagnosis.

The car has always held a charge meaning it held pressure, just not enough. Freon losses took place from several hours to several days. No signs of oil or leak detector dye anywhere, not even in the condensation. Condensation test was done using a paper towel mostly clogging the drain tube and no die was found using a florescent black light. I can also get a whiff of freon smell at the vents but not enough to set off an older style sniffer. A Volvo independent wanted to throw parts in it, "and it could be quite expensive". No thanks.

Shop #2 could not find a leak either and said it must be the evaporator.

I leaning towards the evaporator. Maybe a leak in such a spot that would not push out the die and oil.

The question, FCP/euro stuff, evaporator, receiver-dryer, orifice valve, o-rings? Plus some oil.

Tom
