propeller shaft adjustment? 444-544 1958

1958 444
Here's my situation now. I replaced the carrier bearing in the front drive shaft and also the transmission mount. All fits nicely but when putting in the rear drive shaft, there is now a space between the flange and pinion flange. Can the rear drive shaft be adjusted at all, length-wise.
The carrier bearing housing was not snugged up correctly in the past and so it would seem that making this right has now shorted the overall length. Is the only solution to loosen up and pull out(slightly) that flange on the carrier housing again?
